Level 2 / 3
Clinical Pilates is a modification of traditional Pilates developed by physiotherapists, movement specialists and biomechanics experts for people experiencing acute or chronic pain, suffering from illness or recovering from surgery or injury. These classes taught by degree level therapists or clinicians specialising in movement dysfunction and utilise the most up to date research on movement and exercise therapy.
Many exercises are adapted for each individual person to enable correct function and control, and the clinician is able to identify incorrect muscle activity. These classes focus more on isolated muscle activity (individual muscles or group).
Sarah says that this is a Level 2 class and focuses on a mixture of isolated and compound exercises (more than 1 muscle group) and stretches. She will give her clinical expertise and education to feel and understand the strengths and weaknesses in the body and how this could be contributing to pain and dysfunction. These classes assume a certain level of core control but are slower than level 3 classes to allow correct technique and positioning and correction.
Suitable for those with non-limiting mobility issues, joint restriction and muscle stiffness, but want to be pushed to a safe limit of strength and flexibility.
Not suitable for those in acute pain and mobility issues.
